Dorothy Said: There's No Place Like Home

In the movie the ‘Wizard of Oz’, Dorothy discovered that the red shoes from the Good Witch contained a special magic. That magic would return her to Kansas if Dorothy closed her eyes, spun around as she clicked her heels and said over and over: “There’s no place like home”. By Dorothy believing in the magic of the Good Witch, her dreams did come true and she was transported back to her home in Kansas to her family and friends.

A few years back, Dave Facinoli, a writer with the Sun Gazette, a suburban newspaper in the Northern Virginia area, posed this question to local Realtors®: Is Home Ownership Still Part of the American Dream? This was my response to the query: “When Dorothy clicked her heels in ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ she didn’t say, ‘There is no place like renting someone else’s property.’ She said, ‘There is no place like Home.’ Owning your own home is a fundamental human desire. I look for that spark in buyers. It is there; sometimes they just have to be reminded. Your home becomes your special place.”

A Home is so imbedded in the American fabric of life that there are numerous clichés attached to it, such as: Be it ever so humble, there’s no place like Home; A man’s Home is his castle; Bring Home the bacon; Nothing to write Home about; Until the cows come Home; Home is where you hang your hat; and Home Sweet Home.

The heart of being a Realtor® means to me helping people pursue the satisfaction of realizing that ultimate dream, a home of their own. And for those who own a home and are selling, it is working with them through the process of not just the logistics and financial aspects, but the emotional ones as well. Leaving a home can sometimes be a bittersweet journey.

A good Realtor® is like the Good Witch, her special magic transports a buyer HOME!
